ELWOOD CITY, Pa. — It’s been five years since Richard Hogue was shot and killed.

As his mother, Debbie Murdoch, prepares for an annual blood drive Friday marking his death, she’s worried that his killer could get a new trial.

"To put families through turmoil to have to sit everyday and wonder are they going to get out, are they going to be free? It upsets me. It scares me," Murdoch said.

An attorney for convicted murderer Leon Platt has petitioned Lawrence County, claiming a witness in the case lied.

"I'm scared to death with these accusations that it's going to hurt my son's murder case," Murdoch said.

A pending lawsuit by that witness against the Lawrence County District Attorney's Office is also clouding the issue, Hogue's mother said.
