Man killed in Ellwood City shooting

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. — The Lawrence County coroner has ruled that a man's death in weekend shooting in Ellwood City was a homicide.

Richard T. Hogue, 28, of Ellwood City died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, Coroner Russell S. Noga said Sunday.

He died Saturday at 2:28 a.m., less than a half an hour after arriving at The Ellwood City Hospital, Noga said.

Police have one suspect in custody on unrelated charges, Mayor Anthony Court said, declining to release the man's name. Police are looking for a second suspect who may have been involved, he said.

"We're going to work diligently to bring the other suspect in and get this solved," Court said.

Investigators said they believe the three had an argument over guns that escalated into a shooting at a home on the 400 block of Loop Street at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Court said.

Police arrested the first suspect on unrelated charges, Court said. He fired at a home in the west end of the borough earlier that night, Court added. Now the man is being held at the county jail on $100,000 bond, Court said.

State police are assisting the investigation, Noga said. State police in New Castle said they said they did not have an details immediately available, and borough police have not returned voice mail messages about the case.
