PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh will work with local businesses to deliver books, medicine and food to city residents for free, thanks to a pilot program with Kiwibot’s delivery robots.
Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure announced the pilot program Tuesday.
The city will work to increase affordable delivery options for local businesses, pharmacies and libraries for deliveries in portions of Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield, Garfield and Lawrenceville neighborhoods.
The city, along with its partners, will work to provide equitable access to food, education and medication while minimizing delivery costs.

Preparations for the pilot program between the city and Kiwibot started in July and delivery robots will be deployed later this week.
Up to 10 delivery robots will be deployed, each remotely controlled by a human supervisor.
The pilot is funded by the Knight Foundation.
Pittsburgh will work with Assemble, a community space for arts and technology, to expand awareness about personal delivery device technology and technology careers with local youth.
