PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools will join other schools across the country in suing JUUL, the e-cigarette manufacturer, Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.
The school board voted to hire a lawyer Wednesday night, according to TribLIVE.
About 70 school districts nationwide are suing JUUL and other makers of the popular devices, claiming the companies unfairly target young people.
The state education department said Pittsburgh schools recorded 135 arrests or citations for tobacco or vaping in 2018-2019, according to TribLIVE. That was up from 56 the year before.

Pittsburgh Public Schools is just the latest local school district to take action. North Hills, McKeesport, Butler Area and Slippery Rock schools are also part of the lawsuit.
