9:30 P.M. UPDATE:
Police are directing two-way traffic in what are usually two northbound lanes on West Liberty Avenue in Beechview on Friday night.
One northbound lane is carrying its usual traffic while the other is carrying southbound traffic around a water main break just south of Curranhill Avenue.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A water main break in the South Hills is causing traffic headaches for commuters on Friday.
Police closed West Liberty Avenue at Curranhill Avenue in both directions for a water main break near the Rohrich Toyota dealership in Beechview, which was first reported just before 4 p.m.
Water is running down the four-lane artery popular with motorists moving between the city and the South Hills. Some of it is already beginning to ice over the street and sidewalks.
One vehicle slid into a utility pole in the vicinity of West Liberty and Curranhill, but the driver was not injured.
