Police say woman was driving drunk when she hit, killed 3 teens

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — A woman is facing charges after police say she hit and killed three teenagers while driving drunk in Florida over the weekend, according to officials with the North Miami Police Department.

WFOR reported that police announced the arrest of 31-year-old Mariam Coulibaly Tuesday night. Authorities say she was driving a vehicle when she struck and killed truck Gedeon Desir, 13, Lens Desir 15, and Richecarde Dumay, 17, on impact Saturday morning. The three were walking to a bus stop in North Miami, Florida, to get a ride to a soccer tournament.

Coulibaly was taken to Aventura Hospital, where she is recovering from her injuries.

Coulibaly told Miami Herald Tuesday that she shattered her hip and chest, and had surgery on her stomach.

"I came from a blackout," she told the Miami Herald from her hospital bed. "When I woke up, I didn't even know that I hurt people."

WPLG reported that, according to court records, Coulibaly has a number of past driving infractions. The Miami Herald reported that investigators said Coulibaly was driving with a suspended license when she plowed her car at high speed into the three teens.

Coulibaly is being charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of DUI manslaughter.

The victims, who were not related, were teammates on the Little Haiti Football Club, which has set up a GoFundMe page to help funeral costs for each of the boy's families. Additional funds raised will go toward the soccer club's mission to help at-risk youth in the Little Haiti Miami neighborhood.
