BIG BEAVER, Pa. — A former racetrack could become a data center in Beaver County, but neighbors made it clear they do not want to see that happen at a meeting held on Thursday.
Switch Data Center wants to build a data center at the former Pitt Race Track.
The meeting was originally scheduled to be held inside the Big Beaver Borough municipal building, but so many people showed up that they moved it outside.
Neighbors say they’re concerned about how much water the facility could use, the noise it could bring and what more traffic would mean for residents living nearby.
They also raise questions about possible problems with old closed mines underground the site.

“Our residents need to come first in this. We got wells, we got all that mining up there. I don’t care how many holes they board. There’s mining up there, and we all know what happens: the weight, the vibration, all of that. I just want to know what we are doing to protect us,” resident Cindy Evans said.
Right now the council is still asking for environmental studies and changes to the project before voting on the proposal.
