City of Pittsburgh appoints new fire chief

PITTSBURGH — The City of Pittsburgh has appointed a new fire chief.

On Friday afternoon, Mayor Corey O’Connor announced that Mat Davis will be taking over the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire.

Davis has worked as the bureau’s assistant chief of community risk reduction since 2023 and has served as acting chief since earlier this year.

The new chief has been a firefighter since 2004 when he took a job with the Dormont Fire Department. He later served as their chief.

Davis has helped the next generation of firefighters by acting as a fire instructor.

He is a Point Park University and National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program graduate.

Davis will replace Darryl Jones, who announced his retirement in July. Jones’ retirement came after he was placed on leave during an internal investigation.
