Criminal charges expected next week in Pittsburgh City Hall finance investigation

PITTSBURGH — Criminal charges are expected next week in connection with the investigation into Pittsburgh City Hall finances.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala confirmed the development to Channel 11 on Thursday afternoon.

The nature of those indictments or when exactly they will be filed was not clear.

This comes just over a month after a search warrant for the City of Pittsburgh was unsealed.

Served in March, the warrant sought information and documents from former Mayor Ed Gainey’s administration.

The nine-page document raises questions about professional service contracts, suggesting they benefited Gainey’s supporters, with transactions hidden through lobbyists.

Zappala has said before that he expects charges in the case, and expressed concern over millions of dollars potentially unaccounted for.
