PITTSBURGH — A teenager is behind bars, charged as an adult, after a standoff in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood.

Police say she stabbed a woman before barricading herself inside.

According to the criminal complaint, 17-year-old Daynia Ayers of Steubenville, OH, was arrested.

Channel 11 has learned the incident happened in a short-term rental just blocks away from the site of a 2022 mass shooting. The building was also being used as a short-term rental.

Two teenagers died that Easter Sunday morning. They had been attending a party with about 200 others.

No one has ever been arrested or charged.

Since that 2022 shooting, there have been attempts to change the laws surrounding short-term rentals in the city.

Days after the shooting, Councilman Bobby Wilson introduced legislation that would require short-term rentals to register before operating.

Wilson cited ongoing litigation.

On New Year’s Day 2026, a woman was shot in the leg in East Allegheny. It renewed calls for tightened restrictions.

Today, Councilman Wilson told Channel 11 a version of that legislation is waiting for a recommendation from the City Planning Commission before it heads back to council.

It would prevent rentals from being used for public gatherings or entertainment and would require the person managing the property to be the owner and a resident.

It’s unclear when the legislation could be put in front of Pittsburgh City Council.
