PITTSBURGH — A number of suspects appeared before a judge facing drug charges Friday after a drug sweep in northern Allegheny County.
"Fourteen drug dealers will be taken off the streets today. That's always a good thing for our communities,” said McCandless Police Chief David DiSanti.
The arrests are part of an operation between local police and the district attorney’s narcotics enforcement team. The goal is to round up street-level dealers.
"I would say that they are mid-level dealers,” DiSanti said. “But I think the critical thing to realize is they were dealers that were dealing locally."
Disanti says heroin, cocaine and marijuana were the primary drugs being peddled by the dealers police targeted. Much of it was sold to undercover agents.
The arrests are also helping to solve another investigation in McCandless, one that's remained a mystery until now.
"We had an incident in our town where a vehicle was shot up on Aldenford Drive," DiSanti said. "That individual has a current warrant and he will be arrested for selling drugs. So you can see how this all ties in."
All those arrested Friday were arraigned before a magistrate.
