MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Students in the Gateway School District wrap up classes Thursday, but they’ll notice a change when they return in the fall.
The high school’s Antimarino Stadium will be closed for a portion of the summer, starting June 4, for a construction project. The stadium, track and bleachers will be closed until Aug. 19.
According to school board documents, the district is spending more than $668,000 to repair walls and ramp areas.
People like youth football coach Elvis Koutsakis think the stadium face-lift is good for the community.
“Football saves lives. It saves kids, young boys, I mean. I couldn't even put a value on what it's done for me, so I give it back to the community and try to give a little back of that structure it did for me and my life, so I think putting some money into that stadium is a great idea,” Koutsakis said.
