AVALON, Pa. — Crews battled a house fire Tuesday morning in Avalon that claimed the lives of a couple married for 38 years, family members told Channel 11 News.
Investigators said the fire started because of an electrical issue.

Ronald and Barbara Wilson were unable to escape the fire and died, family members confirmed.
Officials said they were in an upper floor of the home.
Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic learned that the couple took care of a man who was on the first floor and was rescued by a neighbor and a police officer.
“They couldn’t make it up to the second floor, so it was a dangerous situation,” Avalon Police Chief Tom Kokoski said.
The fire has been classified as accidental, but remains under investigation.
