PENN HILLS, Pa. — Sewage bills are skyrocketing in Penn Hills, so much so that some people are planning to take drastic measures to escape them.

Some customers told Channel 11 they're paying around $300 a month or more.

"This is ridiculous. Over $2,400 a year in water and sewage," said Penn Hills resident Erica Mooney.

One homeowner said they started skyrocketing a little over two years ago, so we tried to find out why.

Channel 11 has reached out to the mayor, city councilmen and Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority, but they have not returned our calls.

We found out this isn't just a Penn Hills.

"The sewage portion was over $500 and just that amount is ridiculous knowing our water bill was about $160," said Verona resident Taylor Mandalo.

Taylor Mandalo, who lives in Oakmont, said it's so hard to keep up with that he has to find a second job.

"It's either we pay the bill or get our water shut off," Mandalo said.
