More racist flyers spotted in Allegheny County

ELIZABETH, Pa. — Police are on the lookout for whoever is spreading yet more messages of hate.

Ku Klux Klan flyers have been left on front stoops and street corners in Elizabeth Township.

Police are not taking this lightly and told Channel 11 they have spent a lot of time searching for any racist flyers.

They are encouraging residents to call them with an exact location if they spot any propaganda.

“I opened it up and it was the propaganda,” said Jacob Smith, who was walking along Route 51 Tuesday night. He said he didn't realize what it was at first and kept walking.

"Then we found another, and that’s when I kind of got a little bit concerned," Smith said.

They found the material in clear baggies, weighted down with birdseed. The wording on the flyers can only be described as offensive.

"It’s historically inaccurate, and there’s a bunch of false accusations against different racial groups," Smith said. "It’s disgusting.  It’s truly disgusting that people feel that way towards other people."

Smith said he didn't realize how serious it was until he read the material with his friend and her parents, who initially thought this was all a joke.

"Really sad that people feel this way," said Demetrius Thorn. "We looked at it as more of a cowardly thing."

"It would’ve been kind of bad if a child found this. They shouldn’t be exposed to stuff like this," Smith said.

"Being a half-black guy in a town of very white people, it feels unwelcoming, but it's not something I'm afraid of," Thorn said.

While freedom of speech is legal, Elizabeth Borough police told Channel 11 charges could come if flyers are threatening or seem harassing or if someone trespasses on another person's property to post the flyers.
