JEANNETTE, Pa — In July, the Bushy Run Battlefield announced it would cancel the annual Bushy Run Battle Reenactment they were scheduled to hold in August.
An EF-1 tornado ripped through parts of Penn Township, uprooting and snapping many trees across the entire battlefield.

“It was a killer to make the call to not have the reenactment,” said Matt Adams, Manager of Bushy Run Battlefield.
It took months to clean the broken trees and reopen the grounds and the museum, but they were able to reopen in September.

The organization has had events since then, but on Saturday, they’re doing something special.
“Tomorrow’s going to be the first time we’ve had our reenactors actually on site, in their full kit, with their materials, in any kind of public program that we’ve done since the tornado,” Adams told Channel 11′s Andrew Havranek.
Inside the Stone Room of the museum, you’ll be able to be face-to-face with those reenactors.
“Kind of broadly they’re going to be portraying an 18th century trading post, so they’re going to be having some of the tools, some of the trade goods, some of the weapons you might expect to see at one of those trading posts,” Adams said.
It’s the first time the battlefield has done something like this.
But, after having to cancel the battle reenactment last year, Adams said it was a good way to sort of soft launch some of their bigger events, which includes Charter Day on March 9, celebrating Pennsylvania’s birthday.
As for the battle reenactment?
“We have scheduled for August 2 and 3, the first Saturday and Sunday in August,” Adams said. “We’re super excited to be able to do that again. It means a lot to us.”
