The incident was disturbing enough that the magistrate called Freedom police.

Flood also allegedly sent his ex-girlfriend 28 different texts threatening to kill her.

"Magistrate Howe has asked us, when we come to court, whether we're on duty or off duty, to wear our guns for added protection," said Police Chief Gene St. Clair, of the Freedom Police Department.

This comes just a few months after a shooting at a magistrate's office in Fayette County.

A man appearing on domestic violence charges opened fire and injured four people before a police officer who was inside shot and killed him.

That episode opened statewide discussions about improving security at magistrate offices.

Flood has a criminal history including prior terroristic threats, according to police.

He's being held on a $100,000 bond.
