PITTSBURGH — More than 24 hours after a Pittsburgh salt truck flipped over in someone's front yard, the homeowner have a big question for the city: Why is the salt pile still there?

The driver of a city truck was salting icy Litchfield Street in the city's Chartiers neighborhood Monday when he lost control and rolled over near a house.

The truck was quickly removed, but the salt was not.

Now, Severe Weather Team 11 is tracking rain overnight and into Wednesday morning.

"I've been calling 311. My neighbors have been calling and we keep getting the runaround," said homeowner Nicola Solomon. "They told me they'd be back here first thing today to clean it up because they told me the salt is toxic for my animals."

But when city crews didn't show, Solomon and her neighbors did the best they could to clean up the salt so she could get out of the driveway.

"Right now, I have to be really careful with my dogs bringing them in and out because they're all big dogs and I can't carry them," she said.

This isn't the first time a car almost went into Solomon's house. She told Channel 11 she's lived there for five years and this is the fourth time a car has slid off the road, down the embankment and into her front yard, barely missing her house.

"We've asked the city to put a guardrail in here. They fix the street but never put a guardrail in. And every year we've been going through this," Solomon said.

Channel 11 contacted Mayor Peduto's office, which said a crew would be out Wednesday morning to remove the salt.
