Student charged with posting threatening Snapchat video appears in court

A Knoch High School student whose video on Snapchat put the district on lockdown faced a judge Wednesday.

Jason Bowen, 18, was firing an AK-47 in the video, police say, with the caption "Training for prom walk."

"This was a joke, very bad taste. My client made a bad decision," said David Shrager, Bowen's attorney.

His case is the most recent example of a crackdown on school threats, leading to serious charges.

The 18-year-old has been behind bars for 10 days now.

The video prompted a school lockdown and ultimately Bowen’s arrest.

His attorney came to court to get Bowen's $100,000 bond reduced, which did not happen.

The high school student has no prior criminal history.

"It’s tough for an 18-year-old high school kid to be in jail," Shrager said.

Police and the school district maintains that this was a threat and a crime.
