Arrest made in fatal New Kensington parking lot shooting

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Police have made an arrest in the November shooting death of a man in the parking lot of a New Kensington convenience store.

Devon Bayne didn’t say much about the homicide charges he’s facing in relation to the death of 24-year-old Anthony Ritchie.%

Police said Ritchie, of Vandergrift, was found lying in the parking lot of the Fueland store in the 800 block of Seventh Street.

Police were patrolling in the area the night of this shooting, they said they heard 4 or 5 gunshots go off.

Richie died at the after being transported to the hospital.

Bayne told the judge during his arraignment that he didn’t understand why he was being charged. He said he’s not guilty of anything.

“We don’t know what to do,” said one woman who chose not to be identified. “We honestly have no idea what to do. That’s why we were shouting ‘Free him.’”

At the time of the shooting, Bayne was on probation for a robbery conviction in 2010. He was denied bail today -- and taken to the Westmoreland county prison.
