Attempted burglary in New Castle caught on tape

Surveillance cameras captured shocking video as vandals targeted a New Castle business.

No one was inside at the time, but workers who saw the video the next day said they couldn’t believe their eyes.

The video, which was recorded early Thursday, shows the attempted break-in and burglary at Geno’s Grocery and Deli.

“Someone tried to break in the door. They got a rock and were repeatedly beating on the door. It shattered the glass, but they weren't able to get in,” said employee Tonya Adamo.

The owner of the store showed Channel 11 another video from earlier this week of a suspicious man outside the business. The earlier video prompted the owner to sit in his truck across the street with a shotgun Wednesday night, but he fell asleep and missed the attempt by two men to break in, causing about $400 in damage.

The video shows one man wearing a mask of some kind.

Business owners and workers in the area said they are on-edge, ready to protect themselves and their property.

Channel 11 News is awaiting updated information from New Castle police about the case and to find out how many other similar crimes have happened recently in the area.
