Ben Roethlisberger Hosts Football Camp For 500 Local Kids

HARMONY, Pa.,None — About 500 area boys and girls attended the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation Football Camp, which began on Monday, showing off their skills for the Steelers' quarterback at Seneca Valley High School.

Kids ages 7 to 14 participated in NFL combine drills, scrimmages and even got a chance to stand in the shoes of a professional wide receiver and catch a pass from Big Ben.

Roethlisberger was not only joined by area high school and college coaches to instruct participants, but also Steelers teammates Brett Keisel, Willie Colon, Charlie Batch and Emmanuel Sanders.

Along with receiving an autographed camp team photo with Roethlisberger, a camp T-shirt and goodie bag, campers had a chance to win additional prizes based on categories from 40-yard dash times to sportsmanship.

"The kids are having fun," Roethlisberger said. "To see the smiles on these guys' faces is just awesome."

"[Sportsmanship] is really what we're trying to teach these kids," he added.

In addition to discussing the values of the camp at a post-camp press conference, Roethlisberger also shared his thoughts on rumors that the Steelers might want to bring wide receiver Plaxico Burress back to Pittsburgh.

"We're neighbors and very good friends," Roethlisberger said. "I've talked to Plax numerous times... I told him, 'If you come back here, that'd be awesome.' He's a good guy."

Roethlisberger's football camp will last for two days and is presented by The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and #1 Cochran.
