Man killed in shooting in New Kensington, victim identified

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A man was killed in a shooting in New Kensington Friday night.

According to Westmoreland County 911, police and EMS crews were called to 11th Street at 10:38 p.m.

The victim was found in a parking lot outside of an apartment building and just a few blocks away the New Kensington Police Department.

Investigators have identified the victim as 31-year-old James Michael Hayes of New Kensington.

According to New Kensington police, investigators believe the shooting was targeted.

Several parked cars in the lot where the shooting happened were also hit by bullets.

“There was police tape everywhere and once they removed the tape there are bullets in my car and a bunch of other cars that were towed too, and they had damage to them as well,” said Morgan Brown who had her back passenger window shattered.

No arrests have been made in the investigation.
