PENN HILLS, Pa. — A 17-year-old has been charged with homicide in the death of an 18-year-old who was shot inside his Penn Hills home last month.

The shooting in the 100 block of Keefer Drive on Aug. 18 left Kevin Walter dead.

According to a criminal complaint, police said the shooting happened during a meeting between Walter and Tayquawn Mills for a drug transaction.

Mills was also shot during the incident. He survived his injuries and fled to a house on Anthon Drive.

Investigators later recovered a cellphone belonging to Mills inside Walter’s home, according to the complaint.

Police interviewed Mills and another person, who both said they went to a home on Keefer Drive to buy marijuana.

Their accounts differ, but records show both mentioned some sort of dispute over payment before shots were fired.
