MUNHALL, Pa. — A woman has been charged after investigators said they found two dead dogs in trash bags inside the home where she lived with her two children and her mother who she was reportedly caring for.
Police say they were first called to the home of Courtney Lally of Munhall after multiple neighbors reported an odor coming from the home.
When officers arrived at the home, they reported a smell of decomposition that could be noticed from the street.
Police met Lally and her two kids, who told detectives their ages were 9 and 12 but could not spell their names. According to police paperwork, the children “appeared disheveled with visible dirt on their limbs, unkempt hair and noticeable lack of oral hygiene.”
Both were taken into protective custody and to the hospital for evaluation, as neither of the children had reportedly seen a doctor for “several years.”
Police say Lally’s mother needed assistance exiting the home and needed to be ‘extradited’ from the home by medics due to the amount of trash and obstacles in the home.
One officer noted how much trash was in the home by stating they had to ‘support myself by holding onto walls to prevent myself from falling, tripping or sliding on the trash that littered the floors.’
Investigators found a door ‘covered in human or animal excrement’ and ferrets ‘covered’ in fleas.
There were also cats reportedly in the home; one died, and one was so ill it was euthanized.
Lally is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person, neglect of animals, endangering welfare of children and aggravated cruelty to animals.
