RICES LANDING, Pa. — The search for three people missing after a boat and a barge collided along the Monongahela River in Greene County on Sunday night is now being considered a “recovery” effort.
That update was provided in a 1:30 p.m. press conference by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Sgt. Frank Mehalko said the barge and boat with five adults on board collided late Sunday night.
Two people from the boat were pulled from the water by barge crew members. Those victims, only identified as a man and a woman, were flown to two different hospitals. The woman later died at a hospital in West Virginia. Her identity has not been revealed.
Three other people who were on the boat are still missing. Dive teams and crews from multiple agencies, including Pennsylvania State Police, have been searching the water since Sunday night, but have not located the missing boaters.
The search is ongoing, but crews are now in recovery mode.
