Air-conditioning repairs become difficult amid high temperatures and supply chain issues

McCANDLESS, Pa. — With it so hot outside, many people are relying on the air-conditioning in their cars and homes, but many of these are having trouble getting their air-conditioning fixed.

“What we are experiencing is in influx of people now calling asking for air-conditioning repairs,” said Chuck Eyerman, co-owner of Chuck’s Auto Body shop in McCandless.

They are getting slammed with calls from customers needing air-conditioning repairs.

But due to the high demand and supply chain issues, repairs are more expensive.

“This year compared to last year it has almost doubled or tripled to the price of freon and the price of the air-conditioning parts themselves for the cars,” said Eyerman.

The shop’s co-owner says the freon is the gas that let the air-conditioning units cool your car and home.

Some local air-conditioning companies we reached out to said they are busy fixing or replacing units in homes in the area. They are also having difficulty getting some units or parts they need.

“A lot of times we may need a part for your air-conditioning system and it has to come from the manufacturer and unfortunately they are backlogged and unable to supply that part for us in a few days — it may take a few weeks,” said Eyerman.

The shop’s co-owner said normally they could fix an air-conditioning unit in day or two; now people are having to wait longer. It’s taking a couple days or weeks. Right now, they are doing their best to keep up with the demand this summer as costs go up.

“The average repair for the air-conditioning repair has gone up significantly also these aren’t cheap repairs: you can spend $600 to a $1,000,” said Eyerman.

If you need your air-conditioning fixed in your car or your home, experts say to call ahead and get on the schedule.
