Police: Car sprayed with bullets as people in car in front on them opened fire while driving

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Police were alerted to several ShotSpotter alerts and found a grey Toyota Camry running with the doors open and no one inside.

911 confirmed police activity in the 400 block of South Atlantic Avenue around 9:19 p.m Friday night.

Shortly after the Camry was discovered, police received a call from the three occupants who returned to the scene to speak with police. They told officers they were traveling behind a Jeep when two unknown men wearing masks began shooting toward their car when they observed them. The driver of the Camry said they then backed up to get away, sideswiping a parked vehicle and hitting another before fleeing on foot. No one was injured.

Our crew saw at least 18 evidence markers dotting South Atlantic Avenue as part of the police investigation. A scooter was also located at the scene.

The Camry sustained damage from bullets and was towed by the Auto Squad. Detectives from Major Crimes and the Mobile Crime Unit responded to the scene.

There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
