PITTSBURGH — Aurora Innovation Inc. will miss its goal of putting 200 driverless trucks on the road by the end of this year.
When the Strip District-headquartered company last addressed its investors, it was in August at a town hall, where CEO Chris Urmson and CFO David Maday fielded questions and reiterated that the autonomous vehicle firm was on track to have more than 200 vehicles on public roads by the end of this year. However, during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Urmson revealed that supply chain delays have pushed the 200 vehicle mark to February.
“As we started to ramp production, we bumped into problems with material availability, component quality and just finding challenges,” Urmson said. “We have taken the time to make sure that the quality of the components meets the stringent reliability thresholds we have. Some of the time, this was due to problems with complex components where they had material delays, and so we would have to go back and, in certain cases, source an alternative supply for them.”
