BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — After the Beaver Falls High School principal got word that a teacher was sending sexual text messages to a student, he called the police. The investigation revealed more than 3-thousand messages were exchanged between the two.
“Very wrong, very. I mean, I thought it was funny how people were surprised because I knew it was going to happen eventually. A lot of people knew,” recent Beaver Falls High School graduate Ja’Keiye Mason told Channel 11.
Mason is talking about 24-year-old Sarah Massa, a Beaver Falls High School teacher who’s now facing felony charges for reportedly sending sexual text messages to a 16-year-old student.
“If you were in the senior class, she would barely even talk to you, but if you were a freshman through junior, she would talk to you a lot,” Mason said.
Patterson Township police say Massa and the 16-year-old exchanged phone numbers at the end of the school year. At the beginning of June, the criminal complaint says she started sending the teen messages about making out and performing sex acts. The paperwork says Massa also sent 20-30 pictures of herself in lingerie.
“If you were just in school last year, you really shouldn’t be surprised cause you seen how she moved around the kids,” Mason said. “She gave them special treatment and everything like that.”
The 16-year-old told police that Massa favored him. He had an extremely high grade of 114% in her class, and Massa reportedly even allowed him to sleep in class.
“If you’re a teacher giving students special privileges. Hall passes, letting them be late to class, all that. Clearly you know what’s going on here,” Mason said.
In response, Big Beaver Falls Area School District Superintendent Donna Nugent issued this statement:
“The Big Beaver Falls Area School District is aware of charges involving a district employee.
“The District immediately took appropriate action, notified the proper authorities, and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
“The employee has been removed from duties involving students.
“The District will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety or well-being of students and will take all appropriate action consistent with the law and district policy.
“Because this is an active investigation and confidential personnel matter, the District cannot comment further.”
Massa turned herself in to police today and was arraigned. She’ll have her preliminary hearing Sept. 1.
