Bicyclist hit by car in Carrick dies

CARRICK, Pa. — The medical examiner has identified a bicyclist who died after being hit by a car Sunday night in Carrick.

The crash, which took John Pearson’s life, was reported near the intersection of Almont Street and Overbrook Boulevard about 6 p.m.

Channel 11’s Brittny McGraw talked with Pearson’s relatives who said they hope drivers will start to pay attention to bicyclists.

“He was such a fun-loving person. He was real laid back and had a big heart. He would do anything for anybody,” Pearson’s daughter Angel said. “He loved his bike. He was on it all day, every day riding the trails. That’s what he enjoyed doing.”

Angel Pearson said the crash occurred just a block from where her father lived. She also said neighbors have expressed concern about traffic in the area.

“The street is too busy. That whole Overbrook Boulevard, there’s cars flying up and down. Everybody screams at the cars,” Pearson said. “Drivers should watch the bicyclists, people on their bikes, kids on their bikes and young children playing in the street.”

Police said the crash remains under investigation. There’s no word if charges will be filed.
