Body found in Lawrence County; cause of death ruled as homicide

State police in New Castle are investigating after a man was found dead along a Lawrence County road.

Joseph Detello, 40, of Meadville, was found along Young Road in Slippery Rock Township Thursday afternoon, according to a police report.

He was found by a passerby who stopped to assist when he thought Detello was having issues with a vehicle tire. The passerby then observed that Detello was unresponsive, called 911 and gave him CPR.

When EMS got to the scene, they determined Detello was dead.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Detello’s cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation and was ruled a homicide.

No further details will be released, police said.
