CRANBERRY, Pa. — The Cranberry Township Police Department has launched a new program to help people interact with police.
It’s called the Blue Envelope Program, and the department says it’s designed to help people with autism or other communication barriers prepare for interactions with law enforcement.
The idea is to organize key information, like driver’s licenses, registration and proof of insurance, ahead of time in a blue envelope to reduce stress when those items are needed.
Officials say the envelopes can be used by anyone who finds interactions stressful or difficult to navigate, including those whose first language isn’t English.
“And people that come to our area that don’t necessarily speak the language so fluently, if we could help ease some of that fear and some of that tension, and you know what, we want this to be a home for everybody,” Community Service Officer Mike Manipole said.
