RANKIN, Pa. — An event Saturday in Rankin celebrated Pittsburgh’s heritage of industry and the arts.
The Festival of Combustion returned to the Carrie Blast Furnaces for its 10th year. Artisans showed off the history and craft of metal and glass working.
“This is really our heritage in action,” said Emily Balawejder, director of marketing and communications for event organizer Rivers of Steel. “Pittsburgh is known as the Steel City for a good reason. We’re in the shadow of one of the original iron mills that created the steel that really built the world.”
There were also flame performances, fireworks and other activities.
