MONONGAHELA, Pa. — A woman’s body was found in a Monongahela home after flames tore through it late Saturday night.
According to Washington County Coroner Tim Warco, a passerby called 911 at 10:49 p.m. to report a fire in the 500 block of Warne Street Extension.
The Charleroi Fire Department was called to provide backup. The department shared photos on social media of flames shooting through the home’s roof.
Although the home was originally thought to be empty, the Pennsylvania State Police fire Marshal found a body inside while investigating Sunday.
The coroner’s office says Linda Pankiewicz, 75, died in the fire. Her cause and manner of death have not been determined.
The Monongahela Fire Department said two firefighters were taken to local hospitals after suffering injuries in a fall. Their injuries were minor, and they have since been released.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and Monongahela City Police Department continue to investigate the fire.
