Greyhound bus driver under fire after altercation with elderly woman

PITTSBURGH — FRIDAY DEC. 12 UPDATE -- The bus driver talked with Channel 11's Brandon Hudson Friday morning. Watch video above for his side of the story.

Greyhound is looking into a recent incident on a bus to Pittsburgh after passengers recorded an altercation between a bus driver and an elderly woman.

Tarron Gray was on the bus from Birmingham, Alabama, to Pittsburgh in which a bus driver was demanding an elderly woman move from her assigned seat.

“You've been on the bus since yesterday. You could have had any seat you wanted on this bus,” the bus driver is heard saying on video of the interaction.

Footage shot by passengers on the bus goes on for several minutes.  “We were starting to get mad and wondering, why is he doing this to this lady?" said Gray. “(She was) talking about her leg, saying she's having a problem with her leg. (She was) talking about her knees - how she's in pain, and she needed to be in the front."

In the video, the woman can be heard pleading for her front row seat.

"She said, ‘Sir, that's my seat. I paid for a handicapped seat,’” said Gray.

According to Gray, another passenger took the woman’s seat when passengers changed buses in Alabama. When the woman complained, Gray said the driver went on the offensive.

"He was telling her, ‘Come on, ma'am. Let's go make your complaint.’ That's when it started brewing up, and everyone was like, ‘This is wrong,’" said Gray.

Other passengers told the driver to leave the woman alone.

"This guy right here with the cowboy hat on, they kicked him off the bus,” said Gray, pointing at the video. “We didn't get to film it, but they kicked him off the bus because the man stood up for her."

Gray said a manager finally got on the bus and gave the woman her seat back, but Gray said he thought the driver's behavior was completely out of line.

"It was just rude to do that to an elderly lady, to talk to her like that,” he said. "I feel that this man shouldn't be a driver."

A spokeswoman for Greyhound said they are investigating the incident.
