MOUNT LEBANON, Pa. — The Mount Lebanon community came together Friday to support the Special Olympics.
The police department and school district hosted the “Hometown Torch Run.”
Spanning two miles, the team run went down Washington Road before finishing at Mount Lebanon High School.
It was an extension of the law enforcement run held every May, according to Sgt. Ty Kegarise of the Mount Lebanon Police Department.
The goal this time was to bring awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes, Kegarise said.
“It’s to kind of unify your town. So, police, emergency responders, school district students, businesses we wanted everybody to come together for a common cause and a worthy cause, which would be our Special Olympics athletes.”
About 100 people participated in the run, after which the high school held a pep rally.
