PITTSBURGH — Indivisible Pittsburgh and a coalition of partner organizations hosted a demonstration and march in downtown Pittsburgh Saturday to promote early voting.
The event began at noon at the City County Building before moving to Mellon Square.
Titled “No Kings! Pittsburgh Says: VOTE EARLY,” the mobilization focused on helping eligible voters make voting plans ahead of Election Day. Organizers stated the event was intended as an organized nonviolent movement responding to policies of the Trump administration.
The demonstration started with speeches outside the City County Building. Participants then marched to Mellon Square, where local advocacy organizations set up informational tables and hosted further presentations. The gathering featured musical performances by Deryck Tines and Phat Man Dee, a send-off for the Women’s Walk Across America campaign and a giant inflatable chicken.
Featured speakers scheduled for the gathering included performer Billy Porter, former Rep. Conor Lamb, State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. Additional speakers included Brett Scruton of Common Cause PA, Casa San José Executive Director Monica Ruiz and Emily Waugh of Women’s Walk Across America.
Numerous civic, labor and environmental organizations partnered to support the mobilization. Participating groups included Casa San José, CeaseFirePA, the Coalition of Labor Union Women Pittsburgh, Common Cause, Common Defense, the League of Women Voters, the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, Progress PA, the Sierra Club and TransYouniting.
