1 dead after shooting in Aliquippa

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A busy street in Aliquippa was swarmed by state police overnight as they continued to investigate an early morning shooting.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to a home on the 2300 block of Mill Street around 5:15 a.m., where a caller told 911 someone had been shot. One man with visible injuries was brought out in handcuffs and was taken away in an ambulance.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said 31-year-old Vincent Ciccone was taken to the hospital from that scene and died at UPMC Presbyterian hospital.

It is unclear if Ciccone was the man who was taken out in handcuffs.

“I saw lights…I was like, ‘What is going on?’ said Carol Saxon, a neighbor who lives across the street. “It’s always something around Aliquippa,”

Channel 11 crews also saw a woman and two children come out of the home.

“I know her. She’s always nice, hard worker, you know” Saxon said.

Sarah Johns volunteers at the Aliquippa Croatian Center across the street. She was getting ready to prepare this week’s Fish Fry when she heard about the commotion.

“My mom called me on the way in because she also volunteers here. She was like, ‘Just keep the doors locked because they’re not releasing anything on the news, so we don’t know what’s going on. It’s right across the street,” Johns said. “It’s usually very quiet. There are lots of families right here, kids playing…”

The investigation continued throughout the morning, with Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier and a forensics team arriving hours later.
