Local doctor accused of touching women inappropriately released from jail

A local doctor accused of touching several women inappropriately during office visits was released from jail Thursday.
Dr. Raja Chakrapani's bond was modified Wednesday. Under the modifications, Chakrapani is not permitted to be alone with patients, must have no contact with any of the alleged victims and he had to surrender his passport.
The primary care physician is accused of assaulting at least two patients at one of his several offices in the Pittsburgh area. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Allegheny County police said more women came forward Wednesday claiming the doctor touched them inappropriately, though police did not immediately say how many.
Chakrapani  is accused of assaulting at least two patients at one of his several offices in the Pittsburgh area.
According to police, Chakrapani, 59, is accused of touching and rubbing his body parts on two female patients. Investigators said the alleged incidents happened between August 2012 and June 2013.
“We realize that during the course of an exam there will be touching, but not as far as this doctor has gone,” Allegheny County Police Lt. Jeffrey Kurczyk said.
According to the criminal complaint, one woman told police that Chakrapani tried to kiss her during one of her exams, and rubbed himself on her and grabbed her inappropriately during another.
The second patient also told police that she was touched inappropriately, the complaint said.
“It doesn't seem like the type of person he is,” said Mandy Flatley, a patient of Chakrapani. “I'm really hoping those allegations are not true, because I've known him for years and he's a wonderful man, and I find it so shocking.”
Authorities said Chakrapani, who was arrested at his White Oak practice RC Medical Associates, is facing four charges of indecent assault and two charges of harassment.

WHITE OAK, Pa. — Investigators are asking any other possible victims to come forward. Chakrapani has offices in Turtle Creek, West Mifflin, Swissvale and Mercy Hospital.
