Local students demonstrate problem-solving with AI

PITTSBURGH — Local students are solving real-world problems with artificial intelligence.

Friday, the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania held its AI Student Showcase at Wintergarden at PPG Place.

Nearly 100 Pittsburgh-area teens in the club’s Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute presented their AI-driven projects.

“Programs like this are super important because AI is our future, whether we like it or not,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director of the PPG Foundation, which serves as the AIPI program’s title sponsor. “And it’s important that these young folks are learning about it now because they’re going to be living it day in and day out.”

Participants also shared their research and recommendations for ethical AI use.

“It’s a cool experience because, you know, most people aren’t going to get to experience things like this,” City High Charter School student Ronnie Milton said. “They don’t get to come before PPG and their specialized people and get to present something this cool.”
