PITTSBURGH — A man has been arrested after he walked into a downtown Pittsburgh convenience store with a plastic bag on his head and a note demanding money on hand, police said.
Anthony Riegel, 47, of Butler, tried to rob the 7-Eleven on Smithfield Street just before midnight Sunday, according to Public Information Officer Sonya Toler.

Riegel fled on foot when a store employee refused to give him cash. He was then spotted by an off-duty officer on Ninth Street.
The bag, which had a hole in it so that Riegel could see, and the handwritten note were found in Riegel's pants pocket, Toler said.
He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with robbery.
