Massive tree falls in Pittsburgh’s Manchester neighborhood, bringing down wires, snapping pole

PITTSBURGH — A massive tree came down in Pittsburgh’s Manchester neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

Neighbors in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue told Channel 11 they heard a loud noise around 4:00 this morning.

“I can’t even describe it because it was such a noise I had never heard before,” said Edward Seftas. “We had no idea it was this because nothing had hit our house, but the lights went out. If you look, you can see there are wires down everywhere. There’s a wire here, and there was a wire across our car,” Seftas pointed out.

Dozens of neighbors were without power as crews worked to remove the tree and its limbs from the street.

At least 2 cars were damaged, and the roof overhang at the home across the street had some visible damage.

Neighbors said the tree had been deteriorating over the last several months.

“A couple of other smaller branches fell off, and then this happened last night, so it’s been kind of a work in progress,” said Seftas.
