PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh tradition inspired by Fred Rogers is back for its 27th year, collecting sweaters for children and families in need.
The Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive is underway at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, where tens of thousands of sweaters have been collected over the years.
Pre-K students from Pittsburgh Public Schools helped kick off this year’s drive by donating the first sweaters and meeting Daniel Tiger.
The drive has collected more than 50,000 sweaters over the years, according to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.
“This time of year, when people need a little bit of an extra boost, we’re able to provide that by distributing sweaters of all sizes,” said Max Pipman of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. “It’s really got a great connection into the mission and the story of Fred Rogers and all of his characters.”
People who donate a sweater will receive one free admission to the museum.
The museum is also featuring its “It’s a Beautiful Day to Be You” exhibit during the holiday season.
Sweater donations will be accepted through Nov. 30.
