Mother of student with disabilities calls for action after school bus was hit with her son on board

SOUTH BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A McCarter school bus carrying a single student was involved in a collision Wednesday morning in South Beaver after a car clipped the front end of the bus.

The student on board, who has disabilities and is nonverbal, was unhurt in the incident.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 51 Constitution Blvd and Route 168 Salem Church Rd.

The student’s family is calling for changes at the intersection, which currently relies on a blinking yellow light rather than a full traffic stoplight.

Ashley Stadnik, the mother of the student on the bus, said her son Carter was the only passenger on board when the vehicle was struck.

Carter was shaken up and returned home to rest.

“If they would have hit him just hit the bus a little bit back further, then it would have been right into him, which terrifies me because from what people were saying, the driver that hit first was going probably at least 100 miles per hour,” Stadnik said.

Stadnik noted that traffic conditions along the stretch of road contribute to ongoing safety risks, emphasizing that drivers frequently travel at high speeds through the area.

“So people just fly constantly up and down it, especially on their way to and from work,” Stadnik said.

According to Stadnik, community members are well aware of frequent collisions at the location, including fatal crashes.

In addition to seeking a stoplight, the family wants motorists to slow down to prevent further accidents.

Attempts to reach the bus company were not immediately answered. We’re working to learn more from South Beaver Township police.
