Mother who lost son in shooting speaks out about Pittsburgh violence

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh neighborhoods have been rocked by violence in recent days.  There have been four killings since Saturday.

On Tuesday, a mother close to the violence talked to Channel 11 about her concerns.

Carla Staten's son, Ernest Williams, was shot and killed a few days before he was set to graduate in May.   The shooter was never arrested.

"When Ernest passed away on May 28, part of me died with him, she said.

The shooting happened on Memory Lane in the Hill District.

"Something needs to be done," said Staten.

Staten believes her son's case could be put on the back burner with so much violence breaking out all over the city.

"As long as we keep not seeing and hearing, this is going to be a constant problem.  It's time to start hearing and seeing things and let these detectives and police know what we do know to help our community," she said.

"When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee?  I want justice for my grandson," said Williams' grandmother, Gloria Bracey.
