PITTSBURGH — Two dogs were found dead, and over a dozen other animals were rescued from inside a Pittsburgh home on Wednesday.
According to a public information officer, Animal Care and Control officers responded to a call in the 1300 block of Barr Avenue in Westwood after receiving complaints.
When officers arrived, they couldn’t make contact with anybody inside the house. Police said officers then made entry after hearing “sounds of distress” coming from animals inside, in addition to a strong odor of urine, feces and decay.
Officials said at least two dogs were found dead inside the house, which was in deplorable condition.
Police said 11 dogs, two puppies and one cat were rescued and taken to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
The house was unoccupied at the time the animals were recovered. Investigators are working to learn whether or not the house was abandoned.
No charges have been filed at this time.
