New group targets Pennsylvania, 6 other states as data center battle heats up

A group of data center developers and organized labor representatives have launched a new organization to help smooth the building of the projects across states including Pennsylvania.

The American Infrastructure Alliance, launched Monday, includes data center developers CoreWeaver and QTS, hyperscalers including OpenAI, private equity owner Blackstone and unions including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the International Association of Iron Workers and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers.

The alliance is setting its sights on state legislatures, where the battle over regulations over the data center industry is being played out not only in Pennsylvania but elsewhere. The other states where AIA is focusing are Ohio, Iowa, Georgia, Texas, Indiana and South Carolina. The group said its own polling shows data centers are improving in the public eye as more of the benefits are being publicized.
