North Allegheny welcomes new superintendent, plans for the future as 2026-2027 school year kicks off

MCCANDLESS, Pa. — North Allegheny students are back in the classroom, and with a new year comes a new superintendent. That’s one of the changes happening in the district, with some renovation projects set to begin in early 2027.

Tuesday marks the start of a new chapter for North Allegheny superintendent David Deramo, kicking off his first year in that new role.

“We know we’ll have a successful start to the school year,” Deramo said. “I’m very excited to help continue to lead.”

He’s been part of the district for years, serving as an assistant superintendent and the principal of Ingomar Middle. But if you ask Deramo, his focus is on his 8,600 students on their first day back.

“This year, our goal was building on our legacy of what we try to accomplish for students, and this year was for empowering our students: creating voice and choice and ownership in the classroom,” Deramo said.

Students at many of the district’s 12 schools will soon see improvements, with plans in the works for renovations at three elementary schools: Ingomar, Hosack, and Peebles. Deramo is confident these improvements will further expand educational opportunities but said it wouldn’t be possible without his team of administrators.

“It’s really the perfect storm of leadership from above, a very supportive board of directors that help provide our vision, and our job and ability to roll that vision out into our schools for our students and families,” Deramo said.

School officials said the high school will likely see improvements to its pool and aquatic center, with work likely to start in early 2027 on that project, as well as the renovations at each elementary school. Talks are also underway about a new intermediate high school, but those plans are in the early phases.
