VANDERGRIFT, Pa. — A North Carolina man is accused of scamming a DoorDash driver from Westmoreland County.
According to information shared by Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli’s Office, a victim contacted police in Allegheny Township in January to report a suspicious phone call. The investigation was later passed to Vandergrift Police.
The victim said she was working as a DoorDash driver when she received a call from someone claiming to work for the company. This caller said there was an issue with her last order and told her she had to cancel it and check her account activity.
The conversation ended with the victim removing money from her DoorDash account and her personal checking account and sending it to a Cash App account. Police said she lost around $300.
The driver later grew suspicious of the call, so she contacted DoorDash directly. They told her the phone call did not come from their company and that it was likely a scam.
Police tracked the Cash App account back to Scott Olson of Pikeville, North Carolina. The phone number that called the driver was also associated with Olson, police say.
Olson faces charges of unlawful use of computer and computer crimes, access device fraud, theft and impersonating a public servant.
